Lt. Frank Dain (James Wainwright) works for the California State Police as a dogged investigator of missing persons cases. He's a rebel who chaffs at standard police procedures and techniques but is always effective in finding the person for whom he was searching, piecing each case together as if it were a jigsaw puzzle. In this pilot for what later become a series a man is accused of murder after being found unconscious in the apartment of a murdered state official.
